The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) will host a free webinar on discounts for Mobile Broadband Services, an alternative to fixed, wired connections, like cable or fiber, from the California Teleconnect Fund (CTF) and the Universal Services Administrative Company’s E-Rate program. Mobile Broadband Services provides internet access to eligible schools and libraries, including Wi-Fi hotspots, for lending to students. This service helps address the homework gap by enabling students without reliable home internet to complete assignments requiring digital connections.

The CTF program provides a 50% discount on advanced communication services to qualifying entities. Similarly, the E-Rate program provides up to 90% discounts towards eligible broadband services for schools and libraries. During the webinar, CPUC staff will discuss topics including an overview of the CTF and E-Rate programs, the Federal Communications Commission’s recent decision limiting E-Rate support for off-premises locations, and CTF’s stance on Mobile Broadband Services.

Attendees should register in advance for the webinar. Video and call-in options will be provided through email after registration.
