Purpose of the Workshop
The Climate Adaption Equity Workshop will consider potential refinements to the existing CPUC requirements to improve prioritization of equity considerations in the large investor-owned utilities’ (IOUs) Climate Adaptation Vulnerability Assessments (CAVA). The purpose of the CAVAs is to identify strategies to mitigate risks to utility infrastructure due to extreme conditions caused by climate change. This workshop will engage a broad range of stakeholders to inform refined requirements for developing measurable criteria and metrics as well as refined community engagement processes, as outlined in Task 2 of the Climate Adaptation proceeding, Phase II Scoping Memo.
The input provided in this workshop is expected to inform a future CPUC staff proposal and Commission decision.
Format
This Southern California workshop will generally focus on the service territories of Southern California Edison (SCE), San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E), and Southern California Gas (SoCalGas), but may generally inform best practices for equity in Climate Adaptation (the CPUC held a Northern California workshop with PG&E on August 27th). This workshop will build off of previous Climate Adaptation Equity workshops held in 2024. (See materials and recordings for all previous workshops here). CPUC Energy Division staff will facilitate this workshop.
