May 27, 2025 – the Broadband Grant Portal has re-opened. Awardees can submit reports, payment requests, and other grant implementation activities. 

No reports or other filings due while the portal was closed will be considered late.

Local Agency Technical Assistance quarterly report due dates are extended one month. Please submit 1st Quarter 2025 quarterly reports for the timeframe of January 1 to March 31, 2025, by June 30, 2025.

Using the Broadband Grant Portal (Portal)

Local Agency Technical Assistance (LATA) Grantees must now submit reimbursement requests, award modifications, and quarterly and monthly reports through the Broadband Grant Portal. Please see the CPUC's LATA User Guide for instructions on how to use the Broadband Grant Portal. 

LATA Funding Exhausted and CPUC No Longer Accepting Applications

The LATA Program has awarded $50M Local Agency Technical Assistance funds to 106 non-Tribal Local Agencies and Tribal Organizations. As a result, the CPUC is no longer accepting new LATA applications. Tribal organizations may wish to consider the Tribal Technical Assistance grant program

LATA Registration Steps

Step 1: Please confirm if you are the Key Project Contact identified by your agency for the LATA project. This individual will be responsible for submitting payment requests, grant modification requests, and quarterly/monthly contractor reports.

Step 2: If you are a new user to the Broadband Grant Portal, please check your email on 5/6 for a registration link from grantportal.noreply@cpuc.ca.gov. If you are already an existing user through an FFA account, your account will automatically include access to the LATA account. Please email broadband.techassist@cpuc.ca.gov if you need assistance.

Background

The Local Agency Technical Assistance grants support tribes and local agencies in their efforts to expand broadband service to unserved and underserved Californians. Established by the CPUC according to Senate Bill 156, the program has a $50 million budget for grants including a $5 million set-aside for tribes. Technical assistance funding is for planning work that will facilitate high-speed broadband infrastructure projects. A program overview can be found here
