Long Term Gas Planning Rulemaking R.20-01-007 (closed)

On January 27, 2020, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) issued an Order Instituting Rulemaking (OIR) to respond to events that required changes to some of the policies, processes, and rules that govern the natural gas utilities in California. Events such as the Aliso Canyon natural gas storage leak and the rupture of a transmission pipeline in Southern California prompted the CPUC to reconsider the reliability and compliance standards for gas public utilities. Looking to the future, the CPUC saw the need to begin planning for the impact of state and municipal greenhouse gas emissions laws on demand for natural gas and gas utility operations.

On September 26, 2024, this Proceeding was closed. A successor proceeding, R.24-09-012, was opened to further address long-term gas planning.
