The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) invites Californians to provide information on their internet service on the Broadband Public Feedback Survey.

After entering an address or location, participants can submit feedback about service availability, internet speed and reliability, service providers, broadband service affordability, and suggestions for improving the broadband map or its data.

Feedback from Californians, especially those in rural and underserved areas, is essential to ensuring that broadband data accurately reflects the state’s diverse communities and supports ongoing efforts to close the digital divide.

Broadband Map and Survey

Each year, the CPUC collects broadband availability data from internet service providers and displays it on the California Interactive Broadband Map. The map shows where broadband service is available, what speeds are offered, and which providers serve each area. It also helps determine funding eligibility for broadband infrastructure grants through the California Advanced Services Fund and informs public policies that guide the state’s efforts to bridge the digital divide.

The Broadband Public Feedback Survey gives Californians the opportunity to report when the broadband speed or technology cited by a provider does not match what is available at the customer’s location, especially in rural, agricultural, and hard-to-reach areas, and also allows customers to suggest improvements to the map’s tools and features.

Who Should Participate

The CPUC encourages participation from:

  • Broadband customers, particularly those in rural, tribal, and underserved communities
  • Local governments, including counties, cities, and rural townships
  • Chambers of Commerce and business advocacy groups
  • Farmers and agricultural communities
  • Community-based organizations, libraries, schools, and housing nonprofits

The CPUC invites counties, cities, regional broadband consortia, and community partners to help raise awareness and drive public participation by sharing the survey link through newsletters, social media, and public meetings to maximize participation.
